Chapter 2: Everything He Thought He Owned

The gown dropped.
Gasps tore through the cathedral.
Every bruise.
Every mark.
Documented.
Photographed.
Dated.
I held up the first folder—thick, sealed, already copied to three separate attorneys.
"This is who Adrian Blackwell really is," I said.
"And this is what he has done."
Adrian's face went white.
Then red.
"You're insane," he hissed, stepping toward me.
"You're humiliating yourself."
"No," I said calmly.
"I'm finishing what you started."
From the third pew, one of his investors stood up and walked out without a word.
Then another.
Vanessa hadn't moved.
She was gripping her clutch so tightly her knuckles had gone pale.
But it wasn't the bruises that broke Adrian's composure.
It was when I reached into the second folder and pulled out a single photograph.
His face.
A different woman.
A different city.
A different name on a marriage certificate dated four years ago.
The priest stepped back.
Adrian's lawyer, seated in the fifth row, slowly closed his briefcase.
"You were never going to marry me," I said quietly.
"You were going to own me."
Adrian lunged forward—
And that's when the cathedral doors opened.
Two men in dark suits walked in.
One of them was holding a court order.
The other was looking directly at Adrian.
