Chapter 1: The Altar He Built as a Cage

At our wedding altar, my groom squeezed my hand and sneered, "From today on, you belong to me.
Know your place." I smiled and whispered, "You wanted a wife?
Then meet your witness." Before hundreds of stunned guests, I removed my wedding gown, revealing the bruises he left behind and the evidence I had secretly gathered for months.
The applause faded into horrified silence.
But no one realized the final piece of proof I was about to reveal would destroy Adrian Blackwell, his fortune, and everything he had spent years pretending to be...
"Smile, darling," Adrian whispered at the altar.
"You look frightened."
"I'm simply happy," I replied softly.
His fingers immediately tightened around mine until my knuckles ached.
"Good girl."
Adrian believed the white dress, gold ring, and priest's blessing would make me his legal property.
Before a cathedral filled with investors, judges, and high-society hypocrites, he smiled like a man about to claim his most valuable possession.
Behind the front row, Vanessa—his mistress—watched me with a triumphant smirk.
Only the night before, she had leaned close and whispered,
"After tomorrow, you'll finally learn your place."
When I begged Adrian to make her leave, he answered coldly,
"This wedding is happening.
After the vows, your shares transfer to me.
Your father's board seat becomes mine."
"And if you embarrass me, I'll make this entire city believe you've lost your mind."
But Adrian didn't know I had stopped crying months ago.
He didn't know I had quietly earned two law degrees under my middle name.
He didn't know I had audited every shell company, copied every suspicious transaction, and built a case no fortune could bury.
The wedding march faded.
The priest opened his book.
Adrian leaned closer, arrogance filling his whisper.
"Almost mine."
I smiled—the most genuine smile I had worn in years.
Then I slipped my hand from his crushing grip and turned toward the hundreds of waiting guests.
Instead of saying "I do," I reached for the delicate clasp at the back of my gown and let my voice carry through the cathedral.
"Adrian, you said you wanted the perfect wife, didn't you?"
"Well...
allow me to introduce the woman you're truly about to marry—"

What did she reveal in front of everyone?
And what happens when Adrian finally realizes he never had control at all?
