Chapter 2: He Already Knew

My hands were shaking.
Millie had no idea what she'd just told me.
She was already skipping back toward the dessert table, humming to herself, completely unaware that four words had just turned my wedding day upside down.
I stood frozen, staring at Graham across the room.
He caught my eye and smiled — that warm, easy smile I had fallen in love with.
He raised his glass slightly, like everything was perfect.
I couldn't move.
A hand touched my arm.
It was Graham's sister, Diane.
"You okay?
You've gone completely white."
"Did you know?" I asked quietly.
She frowned.
"Know what?"
Before I could answer, Graham was walking toward us, still smiling.
"There you are," he said.
"I've been looking for—"
"We need to talk," I said.
"Now."
Something shifted in his expression.
Just for a second.
A flicker of something I hadn't seen before.
"It's our wedding reception," he said carefully.
"Can it wait?"
"No," I said.
"It really can't."
He glanced at Diane, then back at me.
And in that moment, I realized — he already knew what Millie had told me.
He just didn't know how much.
