Chapter 1: The Birthday Box

After I gained weight from having twins, my husband gave me an AI portrait of myself as an XS-size model, saying, "I'm waiting for you to look like this again." — the next day, he came home and froze when he saw my gift for him.
After giving birth to twins eight months ago, my body had changed more than I'd expected.
Between sleepless nights, feedings, and caring for two babies, losing the pregnancy weight was honestly the last thing on my mind.
My husband, Finn, apparently felt differently.
At first, his comments seemed almost casual.
"You looked so good in that dress before the pregnancy," he'd say while glancing at old photos.
Other times, he'd look me over and ask, "Don't you miss the way you looked before?"
I tried to ignore it, but every comment made me more self-conscious.
Then, on my birthday, Finn handed me a huge, beautifully wrapped box, and for a moment, I was genuinely excited.
Inside was a large framed portrait.
It was an AI-generated image of me, only much thinner, with six-pack abs, a toned figure, and exaggerated curves, dressed like an XS-size fashion model.
I stared at it, completely stunned.
Finn smiled as though he'd given me something thoughtful.
"It's motivation," he explained, pointing at the picture.
"I'm waiting for you to look like this again."
His words crushed me.
After everything my body had been through bringing our twins into the world, my husband had turned my birthday gift into a reminder that I wasn't good enough for him anymore.
As I set the portrait aside, the embarrassment slowly gave way to anger.
That night, I couldn't sleep.
I lay beside Finn replaying his words, wondering how the man I loved could have thought something so cruel would make a good gift.
By morning, my anger had given me an idea.
The next day, Finn came home from work, stepped into the living room, and froze when he saw the gift I'd left waiting for him.
