Chapter 2: What She Pulled From Her Bag

The woman looked down.
And her face went from annoyed to horrified in about two seconds flat.
She had spilled her entire coffee — all over herself.
It had been sitting in the seatback pocket, and somehow, in all her shifting and spreading, she'd knocked it right into her own lap.
Grandma Rose hadn't done a thing.
She'd just noticed it happening and tried to warn her.
The woman gasped.
She grabbed napkins, she twisted, she made a scene loud enough that half the cabin turned around to look.
"This is YOUR fault!" she hissed at Grandma.
"You distracted me!"
Grandma blinked at her, calm as a Sunday morning.
"I tried to warn you, dear."
A few passengers nearby started laughing.
Someone actually started clapping.
The flight attendant came back — the same one who'd asked the woman to move earlier.
She took one look at the situation and pressed her lips together like she was trying very hard not to smile.
"Can I get you some napkins, ma'am?"
The woman's face was scarlet.
But then Grandma did something I did not expect.
She reached into her bag, pulled something out, and placed it quietly on the woman's tray table.
I couldn't see what it was from my seat.
But whatever it was — the woman stopped.

Completely still.
And her expression changed from embarrassment to something I can only describe as shock.
