Chapter 1: The Trash Bin in the Rain

A grandmother carried her 22-month-old granddaughter out into the pouring rain — and placed her inside a trash bin.
The little girl cried only one word.
"Mama…
Mama…"
Maya heard it from inside the house.
She ran out screaming.
"Where's my daughter?!"
Her mother-in-law stood at the door, arms folded, completely dry.
"I threw her away."
Maya didn't scream again.
She ran to the bin, pulled Lily out, and held her tight against her chest in the rain.
Then she turned around.
And for the first time in three years of marriage, she looked her mother-in-law directly in the eyes — not with fear, not with tears.
With something else entirely.
"That's because…"
She didn't finish the sentence.
She didn't need to.
Because the woman standing at that door had no idea what Maya had been quietly building — and what was about to come down on her family like a verdict no one could appeal.
---
What did Maya mean by those words?
May you like
And what has she been building all this time?
