Chapter 2: She Told Me Never To Tell

Ethan didn't move.
He just held Lily tighter, her small hands gripping his shirt like she was afraid he'd disappear.
Vivian straightened up.
"Ethan, she's being dramatic.
I was teaching her discipline—"
"Stop talking."
His voice was quiet.
That was worse than shouting.
Lily pressed her face into his neck and whispered, "She does it when you go to work, Daddy."
The room went still.
Ethan slowly turned to look at Vivian.
She took one step back.
He carried Lily to the couch, set her down gently, and walked to the security panel.
He didn't fast-forward.
He watched from the beginning.
Every hour.
Every room.
His jaw tightened.
Then he saw something that had nothing to do with the chain.
A man.
Inside the house.
During the day.
Vivian's phone buzzed on the counter.
The screen lit up.
*"Did he see it?"*
Ethan looked at the phone.
Then at Vivian.
She didn't reach for it.
She already knew it was too late.
"Who is he?" Ethan asked.
Vivian said nothing.
But her hands were shaking now.
And Lily, still curled on the couch, said quietly, "He comes every time you leave, Daddy.
Mommy Vivian told me never to tell."
