Chapter 1: The Ruler and the Room

"Why don't you go to a school for black kids?"

The sharp, sickening cr@ck of a wooden ruler striking an open palm echoed through the dead-silent classroom.

Mrs.

Gallagher stood towering over Marcus, her face twisted into a cruel, arrogant sneer.

She was the kind of educator who thrived on absolute, unchallenged control, using public humiliation to break anyone who dared to step out of line or didn't fit her narrow worldview.

She demanded he hold out his bare hand, fully relishing the stifling fear that gripped the rest of the room.

When one brave classmate finally pushed his chair back and stood up to loudly challenge her blatant discrimination, she didn't even flinch.

She simply threatened to destroy his final grade, forcing him back into his seat with a triumphant, untouchable smirk.

She believed her authority in that room was absolute.

But Marcus didn't break.

He didn't cry out, pull his hand away, or give her the satisfaction of a panicked reaction.

He just kept his eyes cast downward, perfectly still, absorbing the unjust @buse with an eerie, unbroken calm.

He knew exactly what was happening just a few feet away.

The classmate who had been forced to sit down hadn't actually surrendered.

Hidden just below the rim of his metal desk, resting quietly on his leg, his smartphone was already out.

The camera lens was perfectly angled, recording every single second of the teacher's vile tirade and raised weapon.

Mrs.

Gallagher raised the heavy wooden ruler and brought it down a second time.

**Cr@ck.**

But this time, the strike was immediately followed by a sound that made the teacher's bl00d run instantly cold.

The crisp, undeniable sound of a smartphone camera shutter pierced the stifling silence of the classroom.

Mrs.

Gallagher froze, the arrogant color instantly draining from her face.

**"Who just took a picture?!"** she shrieked, her false authority immediately shattering into sheer, bug-eyed panic.

She frantically demanded every phone be placed on the desks right that second, completely unaware that the photo was already captured, and the indisputable evidence of her bigotry was completely out of her hands.
