Chapter 2: The Red Light

The Father's face twisted with fury.
"You pushed my son into that pool?"
"No, sir — I saved him!
The stroller rolled and I jumped in—"
"Enough." He stepped between the Maid and the baby, blocking her completely.
"Don't touch him."
The Woman in Green placed a hand on his arm, her voice soft and steady.
"I saw everything.
She had her hands on the stroller right before it went in."
The Maid's legs were still shaking.
Water dripped from her uniform onto the tiles.
She looked at the baby, safe and crying in his father's arms, and felt something collapse inside her chest.
"Sir, please.
Check the security camera.
It will show you exactly what happened."
The Father went still.
The Woman in Green's expression didn't change — but her fingers tightened on his arm.
"The camera," the Maid said again, louder this time.
"It's pointed directly at the pool."
For a moment, no one moved.
Then the Father turned slowly toward the corner of the patio wall — toward the small black camera mounted above the gate.
The Woman in Green finally spoke.
"That camera hasn't worked in weeks."
But the Maid had seen the little red light that very morning.
