Chapter 2: The Name Nobody Was Supposed to Speak

Part 2 ⬇️
The room held its breath.
Emily turned to face the guests.
Her voice was steady now — no more trembling, no more tears.
"My mother's name was Rose.
Twenty-two years ago, she trusted Victoria with everything.
Her jewelry.
Her documents.
Her signature on papers she never fully read."
A woman near the back covered her mouth.
Victoria's husband — the man in the tuxedo — took one step forward.
"Emily, this is not the place—"
"Then when is the place?" Emily turned to him.
"You knew.
Didn't you, Richard?"
Richard said nothing.
That silence was its own answer.
Emily reached into the small bag at her side and pulled out a folded envelope.
"This letter was written by my mother three months before she d!ed.
She named you both."
Victoria lunged forward.
"Give me that."
"No."
Emily held it above her head as two guests stepped between them.
Victoria's face had gone from pale to something darker — something that looked less like fear and more like fury.
"You have no idea what you're about to destroy."
Emily looked at her without blinking.
"Good.
Some things deserve to be destroyed."
Then a voice came from the far side of the ballroom — calm, quiet, and completely unexpected.
"I can confirm everything she just said."
Everyone turned.
Standing near the entrance was an elderly woman in a grey coat.
Emily had never seen her before.
But Victoria had.
And Victoria looked like she was about to collapse.
