Chapter 2: What She Found Before the Flowers Were Arranged

Security reached the doors before Savannah's father did.
He turned around slowly.
His face had gone pale.
The folder in the manager's hands was open now, and two of the guests near the front had already leaned in close enough to see what was inside.
Photographs.
Documents.
And what looked like a signed agreement dated three days before the wedding.
Savannah grabbed Marcus by the arm.
"Tell them this is a misunderstanding," she said.
Her voice was no longer cold.
It was shaking.
Marcus looked at the folder.
Then at his grandmother.
Then back at Savannah.
"How did your father even know this property existed?" he asked quietly.
Savannah didn't answer.
Evelyn stepped closer and spoke directly to her grandson.
"She knew before you proposed, Marcus.
I need you to understand that."
The room was completely still.
Then Savannah's father spoke from near the doors.
His voice was low, but everyone heard it.
"Evelyn.
We can settle this privately."
Evelyn didn't even turn to look at him.
"You should have thought about that yesterday."
Marcus slowly pulled his arm free from Savannah's grip.
And that was the moment Savannah realized she had already lost him.
But what no one in that room knew yet — not even Marcus — was what Evelyn had discovered that same morning.
Before the ceremony.
Before the guests arrived.
Something that made the property the least important thing in that folder.
