Chapter 2: The Message Nobody Was Supposed to Send

Part 2 ⬇️

Vincent pulled the first security file within twenty minutes.

He set his phone on the table in front of Dominic without a word.

The footage was from the rehabilitation wing.

Timestamp: 11:47 a.m.

The previous day.

A figure moved through the hallway.

Calm.

Unhurried.

He stopped at the brace hanging on the equipment rack, made one small adjustment, and walked away.

Dominic watched it twice.

"That's not a technician."

Vincent's jaw was tight.

"No."

"Who authorized his access?"

"That's what I can't find."

Dominic set the phone down slowly.

Through the glass, Arthur sat at the head of the table, hands folded, expression neutral.

Waiting.

Clare hadn't moved from the corner.

Ellie had fallen asleep against her shoulder.

Dominic looked at Mercer.

"How long would it take — at that pressure level — before permanent nerve damage became possible?"

Mercer didn't answer immediately.

"Samuel."

"Weeks.

Maybe less, depending on activity level."

The room went very still.

Three weeks.

Dominic had been wearing the brace for exactly three weeks.

He looked at Vincent.

"Find out who that man reports to."

Vincent nodded once and left the room.

Then Dominic's phone lit up on the table.

Unknown number.

One message.
