Chapter 2: The Photo That Made His Glass Shatter

Alejandro's convoy reached the mansion in eleven minutes.
He had the gate code.
Camila had given it to him years ago, before Mateo made her cut off everyone who mattered.
The doctors found her at the bottom of the stairs, unconscious, still holding her stomach.
They worked fast.
Alejandro stood over her, jaw tight, watching every move they made.
He didn't say a word.
But his hands were shaking.
At the hospital, the doctors told him it was close.
Too close.
Camila survived.
The baby survived.
But for forty minutes, neither of them had a heartbeat anyone could count on.
Alejandro sat outside the room alone.
He called Mateo's number fourteen times.
Airplane mode.
Every single one.
At 6:47 in the morning, Mateo finally turned his phone back on.
Seventeen missed calls from Camila.
Fourteen from a number he didn't recognize.
And one text from his housekeeper that made his face go white.
*"Señor.
There was an accident.
Señora Camila was taken to the hospital.
A man named Alejandro brought her.
He has been here all night."*
Mateo's glass slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor.
Valeria looked up from the bed.
"What's wrong?"
He didn't answer her.
He was already staring at something on his phone that she couldn't see.
A photo.
Sent from an unknown number.
Camila.
In a hospital bed.
And Alejandro sitting beside her, holding her hand.
Below the photo, one sentence.
*"She called you seventeen times, Mateo.
You might want to think carefully about what happens next."*
