Chapter 2: The Photo That Stopped Her Breathing

It was a note.
Small, folded twice, written by hand on hotel stationery.
My name wasn't on it.
But hers was.
*"Last night was a mistake.
Don't contact me again.
— Ian"*
I read it three times.
My hands were shaking so badly I had to lean against the hallway wall just to stay upright.
A woman's name.
A note written in my husband's handwriting.
On our wedding night.
I stood there in the corridor in my pajamas, barefoot, holding a piece of paper that made everything I believed about my marriage feel like a lie.
Then my phone buzzed.
A text.
Unknown number.
*"Did you find it yet?"*
I stared at the screen.
My chest went tight.
I typed back: *"Who is this?"*
Three dots appeared.
Then stopped.
Then appeared again.
*"Someone who was at your wedding last night.
We need to talk.
Before you get on that plane."*
I looked back at the closed hotel room door.
Ian was still on the other side of it, sleeping.
I looked down at the note.
Then at my phone.
Then a second message came through.
*"Check the photo I'm sending.
Then decide if you still want to go to Greece."*
The photo loaded slowly.
When it fully appeared on my screen, I stopped breathing.
