Adrian sat with the file open for a long time.
The name on the page was Daniel Keane.
He said it quietly to himself.
Once.
Twice.
Then it hit him.
He pushed back from his desk and walked straight to his father's old study — a room he rarely entered anymore.
He pulled open the bottom drawer of the oak cabinet in the corner.
Inside was a box of documents his father had left behind when he passed three years ago.
Adrian dug through it until his hands stopped moving.
There it was.
A letter.
Dated nearly five years ago.
His father's handwriting.
The name Daniel Keane was written at the top.
Adrian's chest tightened as he read the first line.
*"If anything happens to me, make sure the boy is taken care of.
He deserves what was promised."*
Adrian read it again.
And again.
The boy.
Owen.
His phone rang before he could process another word.
He answered without thinking.
It was his family's attorney, Gerald Holt.
"Adrian." The man's voice was careful.
Too careful.
"I need to speak with you.
Today.
It's about the Keane matter."
Adrian went very still.
"What Keane matter, Gerald?"
A long pause.
"There are things about your grandfather's estate that were never disclosed to you."
