Chapter 2: She Said I Did It to Myself

The father didn't say a word at first.
He just stood there, holding his daughter against his chest, his jaw tight, his eyes fixed on the woman at the head of the table.
Then he spoke — low and steady, the kind of voice that silences a room.
"She came to you hurt.
And you sent her away."
The woman set down her glass slowly.
"I told you, she's being dramatic.
Children fall.
It's not the end of the world."
"She's six years old," he said.
"She needed help.
You were right there."
A few family members shifted uncomfortably in their seats.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
Then the little girl lifted her face from her father's shoulder and said something so quietly that half the table almost missed it.
"She said I was lying, Daddy.
She said I did it to myself."
The room went completely still.
The father's expression didn't break — but something behind his eyes changed.
He looked back at the woman, and this time she looked away first.
Then his phone buzzed on the table.
He glanced down at the screen — and his face went pale.
---
What was on that phone — and what did this father do next?
