Chapter 2: What the Camera Saw

Claire crossed the room in three steps and took the tablet from Noah's shaking hands.
The screen showed a video.
Security footage.
Timestamp from two hours earlier.
She pressed play.
Evelyn and Amanda were in the hallway outside the party room.
They didn't know the camera was there.
Amanda was holding the scissors, turning them slowly in her hand.
Evelyn was speaking, her voice low but clear enough for the microphone to catch every word.
"She won't say anything after this.
Children like her never do."
Claire's stomach dropped.
She looked up at Evelyn.
Evelyn's expression didn't change.
Not even a flicker.
"How long?" Claire's voice came out barely above a whisper.
"How long has this been happening?"
Evelyn tilted her head slightly.
"You don't know what you're looking at."
"I know exactly what I'm looking at." Claire turned the tablet around so the screen faced the room.
"And so will everyone else."
For the first time, Amanda's composure cracked.
Her eyes darted to Evelyn.
A silent, desperate question passing between them.
Then Lily tugged at Claire's sleeve with one small hand.
"She said if I told anyone..." Lily stopped.
Her chin trembled.
"She said Daddy would go away forever." 😨💔
Claire felt the room tilt beneath her feet.
Because Lily's father had been missing for three days.
And nobody had told Lily why.

What really happened to Lily's father — and how deep does this go?
The full truth is darker than anyone in that room expected.
