Chapter 2: The Signature That Was Never Mine

PART 2 ⬇️
The officer spread the papers on the hood of his car.
I walked over slowly.
My legs felt like concrete.
The deed to my house — the one I had signed four years ago — had a second signature on it.
A signature I had never put there.
Below my name, in careful handwriting, were the words: *Joint Owner — Teresa Bradley.*
"Connor." The officer looked up.
"Did you authorize this?"
I couldn't speak.
Behind me, I heard Teresa's voice drop low.
The screaming had stopped.
She was calm now — which was somehow worse.
"I did what any mother would do," she said quietly.
"I protected my son's future.
Amy was never good enough for this family.
I was making sure she couldn't take everything from you when she left."
Amy made a small sound beside me.
I turned around.
She was holding her phone.
Hands shaking.
Screen facing me.
It was a message.
From Mason.
Sent three weeks ago.
*The second document is ready.
Once Connor signs the new will, the house transfers automatically.
He won't even know until it's done.*
The officer read it over my shoulder.
He looked at Mason.
Then at Teresa.
Mason's face had gone completely white.
And that was when Amy said the one thing none of us expected.
"Connor…
there's something else.
Something I found two months ago and was too afraid to tell you."
