Chapter 2: The Mask That Fell

Part 2 ⬇️
Chadworth couldn't move.
His hands were flat on the desk, his eyes locked on the screen, and he couldn't move.
On the monitor, Sabina leaned down until her face was level with Gemma's.
"If you cry," she said quietly, "I will tell your father that Rosamund did it."
Gemma pressed her lips together.
A five-year-old, working that hard not to cry.
Rosamund didn't flinch.
"The girls need to get ready for school, Miss Sabina.
I'll take them upstairs now."
It wasn't a question.
It wasn't defiance.
But it was a wall.
Sabina straightened up slowly.
She looked at Rosamund the way a person looks at something they've already decided to destroy.
"You won't always be here," she said.
"Remember that."
Rosamund said nothing.
She simply placed one hand gently on each girl's shoulder and guided them toward the stairs.
The moment they were out of sight, Sabina pulled out her phone and made a call.
"It's me," she said.
"We need to move faster.
He's getting too attached to those girls.
And that maid knows too much."
Chadworth's security chief turned slowly from the screen and looked at him.
Neither of them spoke.
Because they had both just heard the same thing.
Sabina wasn't acting alone.
