Chapter 2: The Name No One Was Supposed to Hear

⬇️ PART 2

The groom's voice came out barely above a whisper.

**"Mother…

what is that pendant?"**

The wealthy woman couldn't answer.

Her lips moved but no sound came out.

For the first time in her life, the woman who controlled everything — every room, every conversation, every decision — had nothing left to say.

The bride's hands were shaking, but her eyes were steady.

**"Where did you get this?"** she asked quietly.

**"Who gave it to you?"**

Still nothing.

Then an elderly man near the back of the ballroom slowly rose from his seat.

He was the family's oldest servant.

He had worked in the household for over forty years.

Everyone assumed he was too frail to matter.

He wasn't.

**"I know what that pendant is,"** he said.

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

**"And I know where it came from."**

The wealthy woman spun toward him.

Her expression shifted from shock to something colder.

**"Sit down,"** she said through her teeth.

**"You don't know anything."**

The old man didn't move.

**"I was there the night the child disappeared,"** he said.

**"I've been silent for thirty years.

I won't be silent anymore."**

The groom took one step toward him.

And then the old man said a name.

A name no one in that ballroom had ever heard before.

A name that made the wealthy woman's face collapse completely.
