Chapter 2: The Letter She Wrote Last Week

Part 2 ⬇️

The chapel went completely silent.

Ethan didn't let go of Victoria's wrist.

"How long?" His voice was low.

Controlled.

Worse than shouting.

Victoria's face shifted — the soft bridal smile gone, something harder underneath.

"Ethan, she's lying.

Look at her.

She's a child.

Someone sent her here to ruin—"

"How long, Victoria."

Lucy pressed herself against Ethan's side, still clutching the envelope.

She wasn't crying.

She was watching the bride the way a child watches something she has been warned about her whole life.

"My mom told me everything," Lucy said.

"She said if anything happened to her, I had to find you.

She said you never knew."

Victoria laughed — short, sharp, wrong for a chapel.

"Olivia was unstable.

Everyone knew that.

Whatever she told this child—"

"There's more in the envelope." Lucy reached in and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

"Mom wrote you a letter.

She wrote it last week."

Ethan took it.

His hands were steady.

His face was not.

He read four lines and stopped.

When he looked up at Victoria, something in his expression made the front row of guests lean back without realizing it.

"You told me she lost the baby."

Victoria said nothing.

"You told me Olivia lost the baby, and then she left because she couldn't cope." His voice dropped further.

"You were there that night.

You were the one who called me."

A woman near the back of the chapel stood up slowly.

Nobody had noticed her come in.

Lucy turned.

And for the first time since she'd walked through those doors — she started to cry.

What's in that letter — and who just stood up at the back of the chapel?

The full story goes further than anyone in that room expected.
