Margaret's face went white when she saw the folder.
"That's not possible," she said.
"Daniel, tell her that's not possible."
Daniel said nothing.
Emma held the folder open and stepped closer.
"Every document was filed three years ago.
The school placement.
The property deed.
The company shares.
All signed by your son.
All under Olivia's name."
Margaret turned to Daniel.
"You did this?
You gave everything to her child?"
Daniel finally spoke.
His voice was low.
"She's my child too, Mother."
The words landed like a stone.
Margaret grabbed his arm.
"You told me she wasn't.
You told me the girl meant nothing.
You stood in my office and you swore to me—"
"I lied to protect her." He looked at Olivia, still sitting on the driveway, one shoe missing, her uniform dusty.
"I lied because I knew what you would do."
Emma pulled Olivia close and said nothing.
Then Margaret's phone rang.
She looked at the screen.
Her expression shifted — something colder than anger.
She walked away from them and answered in a low voice.
Emma watched her go.
Something was wrong.
Margaret wasn't frightened.
She was making a call.
And whoever was on the other end — they were already waiting.
