Chapter 2: What the Silent Girl Heard

Part 2 ⬇️

Emily's hands moved slowly at first.

Then faster.

Alexander watched every word.

THEY SAID — WHEN HE SIGNS THE PAPERS — HE WON'T REMEMBER.

The room was completely still.

THEY SAID — THE DOCTOR WILL SAY HIS MIND IS GONE.

Alexander turned toward Hale.

Hale said nothing.

THEY SAID — VANESSA GETS EVERYTHING.

Vanessa's voice came out sharp and cold.

"She's a child.

She doesn't know what she saw."

Alexander looked at her for a long moment.

"She knew about the powder.

She knew about the sink.

She knew about the camera."

He paused.

"She's been right about everything so far."

Vanessa stepped forward.

"Alexander, listen to me—"

"Daniel."

Daniel Ross was already moving.

"Sir."

"Pull Hale's medical records.

Every prescription he wrote for me.

Every diagnosis.

Every recommendation to the board."

Hale's face went gray.

"You have no right—"

"This is my house." Alexander's voice was quiet.

Absolute.

"And you have been in my kitchen after midnight."

Emily tugged his sleeve one more time.

He looked down.

She signed two more words.

NOT FIRST.

Alexander frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Emily pointed at Hale.

Then she signed slowly, making sure he caught every letter.

HE DID THIS BEFORE.

TO SOMEONE ELSE.

The silence that followed was different from all the others.

Because Daniel Ross had just gone pale.

And Alexander realized Daniel already knew the name Emily was about to sign.
