Dad played the video again.
Nobody moved.
When it finished, he set the phone down slowly and looked at Vanessa.
"Explain that sentence.
Right now."
Vanessa crossed her arms.
"It was nothing.
I was frustrated.
You know how those children test me."
"You said once I sign the papers." His voice dropped.
"What papers, Vanessa?"
She looked away.
"It doesn't matter."
But Grandma was already reaching into her cardigan pocket.
She placed a folded document on the table.
"I found this in the kitchen drawer three days ago," she said quietly.
"I didn't understand it then.
I do now."
Dad unfolded it.
His hands went still.
It was a legal transfer.
His name.
Her name.
The house.
The children's trust fund.
All of it.
"You were going to have me sign this," he said.
Not a question.
Vanessa's jaw tightened.
"You don't understand the full situation."
"Then help me understand." He looked up.
"Because right now it looks like you hurt my daughter to distract everyone while you moved money away from my children."
The room went silent.
Then Lily, still wrapped in Grandma's arms, said something so small it almost didn't reach anyone.
"She did it before, Daddy.
When you weren't home."
Vanessa's eyes snapped toward the little girl.
And that look — that single, cold look — told everyone in the room exactly who she really was.
