Chapter 2: What an Eight-Year-Old Knew

Part 2 — continued in comments 👇

The silence lasted maybe three seconds.

Then the ballroom erupted.

Andrew stood up from the head table so fast his chair scraped back across the marble floor.

His face had gone completely white.

"Turn it off." Rachel's voice cracked through the microphone.

"Turn it OFF."

But the DJ didn't move.

He was staring at the screen like everyone else.

I pushed through the crowd toward Chloe.

She was standing beside the booth, small and still, watching Andrew with those serious eyes of hers.

"Chloe, sweetheart—"

"He needed to know, Mom."

Andrew walked toward the screen.

Then he stopped.

Because there was a second clip.

Same apartment.

Different night.

And this time, the man Rachel was with turned toward the camera.

I heard someone behind me whisper his name.

A name I recognized.

Rachel dropped the microphone.

It hit the floor with a hollow crack that echoed across the entire room.

Our mother grabbed my arm.

"What did your daughter DO?"

"She told the truth," I said quietly.

"Something this family forgot how to do a long time ago."

Rachel turned and looked at me.

For the first time in my life, she had nothing to say.

But Andrew was already walking toward Chloe.

And what he said next — nobody in that room expected it.
