Chapter 2: One Sentence From a Ten-Year-Old

Noah looked straight at Vanessa and said, "I already posted the photos.
All of them.
And I told everyone exactly what you said about Nora."
The table went silent.
Vanessa's face drained of color.
"You did what?"
"Your friends are already commenting," Noah said calmly.
He slid the camera across the table.
"I connected it to your account.
The one you're always logged into on the family iPad."
Vanessa snatched up her phone.
Her hands were shaking.
Nora stared at her little brother.
She couldn't speak.
"Noah—" I started.
"She called my sister damaged," he said.
"So I showed everyone who the real problem is."
Vanessa was already scrolling, her face going from gray to white.
Forty-three comments.
Sixty.
The numbers were climbing.
She grabbed her bag and stood up so fast her chair scraped the floor.
"You take that down right now," she hissed at Noah.
He didn't move.
He just looked at her.
That was when Vanessa turned to me — and said something I never expected to hear from my own sister.
Something that told me this wasn't just about photos.
This had been going on for years.
And Nora had never told me.
