Mia's voice didn't shake.
Not once.
"Aunt Donna," she said clearly, "you've spent years telling people what they can't do.
You told Mom she'd never raise me alone.
You told Claire her marriage wouldn't last.
And tonight you told me I'd never walk down an aisle."
She paused.
"But here's what you forgot.
I don't need to walk anywhere to be loved."
The room erupted.
Donna laughed it off at first — a short, sharp sound.
But the applause kept building, and her smile began to slip.
Then Mia said one more thing.
Quietly.
Directly into the microphone.
"And Grandma told me something before she passed.
She made me promise to say it out loud one day."
The clapping stopped.
Donna went completely still.
"She said you already know why you've never been loved the way you wanted.
And it has nothing to do with a bouquet."
I watched the color drain from my sister's face.
Because Donna knew exactly what our mother had meant.
And so did one other person in that room — someone who had just stood up from a table near the back and was walking slowly toward the microphone.
