The room went completely still.
Theresa's recorded voice came through every speaker, calm and certain, like she was reading from a list.
"Once Rachel has the Newport trust, we move the Valerie accounts.
All of them.
She never has to know.
The girl either."
I stopped breathing.
She wasn't just talking about Logan.
She was talking about me.
About Chloe.
There was money somewhere with our names on it.
And my mother had been planning to make it disappear.
Logan turned slowly and looked at Theresa.
"How long?" he said.
Just those two words.
Theresa's chin lifted.
"Logan, this is not the place—"
"How long have you known about the trust?"
Rachel grabbed his arm.
"We can explain everything.
Just not here."
He pulled free.
The man in the charcoal suit was already moving toward the exit.
Two of Logan's friends stepped sideways and blocked the door without being asked.
He stopped.
Logan looked at him for a long moment.
Then he looked at Rachel.
"Was any of it real?"
Rachel opened her mouth.
And Chloe's small voice came through the microphone one more time.
"There's a second file."
