Chapter 2: You Were Never Supposed to Find Out This Way

Part 2 ⬇️

Caroline didn't answer.

She pushed back her chair and reached for her bag, but I stepped in front of her.

"Sit down, Caroline."

The room held its breath.

She sat.

"The notarized signature," I said slowly.

"Who arranged it?"

Daniel put his hand on my arm.

"Emma, let's handle this privately—"

I pulled away.

"Don't touch me."

Vivian straightened in her chair.

"You are making a scene over a family financial decision.

Daniel had every right—"

"He had no right." My voice didn't shake.

"That condo was mine before I ever met your son.

It was never his to pledge.

And that signature is a forgery."

The word landed like a stone.

Caroline's hands were trembling in her lap.

Then her phone lit up on the table.

Everyone saw the name on the screen.

It wasn't a family member.

It was the notary.

I looked at Caroline.

She looked at Daniel.

Daniel looked at the floor.

"How long?" I asked quietly.

"How long have the three of you been planning this?"

Nobody answered.

Then Vivian said something that made my stomach drop.

"You were never supposed to find out this way."

💔 What did Vivian mean by that?

And what else had they planned that Emma still didn't know?
