Sam had pulled out his phone and was calmly scrolling through something while Claudia grabbed at his arm.
"Sam, I'm serious!
You can't do this to me!
I'm your mother!"
He didn't even look up.
"I know exactly who you are," he said quietly.
"That's why I'm doing it."
I stepped closer and saw his screen.
He had just removed Claudia from his will.
Completely.
Every share, every inheritance, every future gift — gone.
Claudia's face went white.
"You're choosing that boy over your own mother?"
Sam finally looked at her.
His voice was steady and cold.
"His name is David.
He is my son.
And you just said those words in front of him."
Claudia turned to me, desperate.
"You put him up to this, didn't you?
This is your doing!"
I said nothing.
I didn't need to.
Then Sam said something that made every person in that kitchen go completely still.
"There's one more thing I need to tell you, Mom.
Something I found out three weeks ago.
Something about David that you don't know yet."
Claudia froze.
