Callahan led us to a small conference room on the fourth floor.
Ethan followed close behind, and I could feel the heat coming off him.
The moment the door closed, he turned on me.
"What exactly did you tell him?"
"Nothing yet," I said.
"I showed him the email."
"That email means nothing without context."
Mr.
Callahan sat down slowly.
"Ethan.
She holds controlling interest.
That's not a matter of context."
The color left Ethan's face.
"That's not possible.
Those shares were structured under a trust arrangement.
The transfer required board sign-off."
"The board signed off in March," I said quietly.
"You were in that meeting."
He stared at me.
"You knew in March?"
"My attorney knew.
I was told tonight."
Ethan pulled out his phone.
His hands weren't steady.
I watched him dial and turn toward the window, voice dropping low.
I couldn't hear the name he said, but I saw Vanessa's red dress pass the glass panel in the door.
She didn't come in.
She kept walking.

Callahan looked at me over his glasses.
"Is there anything else we should know before this goes further?"
I reached into my purse and set a folded document on the table.
"My father updated his letter of intent six weeks before he passed.
I only received it this morning with the transfer confirmation."

Callahan unfolded it.
Ethan turned around.
