…do something reckless.
Sign something.
Scream.
Walk out without a plan.
But I didn't move.
Grant's brother Marcus was the first to speak.
"Grant," he said slowly, "what exactly are you doing?"
Grant ignored him.
His eyes were still locked on me, still waiting for the collapse he had rehearsed in his head.
Then his mother, Patricia, pushed back her chair and stood up.
She looked at Tessa.

"I need to use the restroom," I said quietly, and I stood up.

"I know," I said.

I walked upstairs.
I closed the bedroom door.
