Chapter 2: The Transfer He Never Expected Me to Find

David’s glass slipped from his hand as the Porsche disappeared down the driveway.

“What did you do?” he shouted, pounding on my office door.

I opened it slowly.

“I protected my company.”

“Your company?”

His face went pale when I turned my laptop toward him.

My name appeared above the words: MAJORITY OWNER—70%.

The executives crowded behind him.

No one was laughing now.

“You planned this,” David said.

“You set me up!”

“I didn’t make you raise your hand,” I replied.

“And I didn’t make them stand there and watch.”

One executive lowered his eyes.

“David told us she was just his wife.”

Then my phone lit up with a message from the firm’s attorney:

UNAUTHORIZED PROPERTY TRANSFER DISCOVERED.

I opened the attached document and froze.

David had tried to place our house in his name alone three days earlier.

“You were going to take my home?” I asked.

David lunged for the laptop, but two security officers stepped into the doorway.

Then the attorney called again.

“Don’t let David leave,” she warned.

“The house isn’t the only asset he tried to transfer.”

David stopped struggling.

“What else did you find?” I whispered.

Her next words made every executive stare at him in horror.
