Chapter 2: What Was Already Mine

I opened the door.
Frank's face was red.
His hands were shaking.
"You had no right," he said.
"No right to do that."
I kept my voice steady.
"Do what, Frank?"
He stepped closer.
"You know exactly what."
I didn't move.
After everything he'd put me through, I wasn't going to let him see me flinch.
"That box," he finally said.
"What you found in that box — you should have left it alone."
I looked at him for a long moment.
"I didn't find anything, Frank.
I used what was already mine."
His expression shifted.
Something behind his eyes flickered — not anger anymore.
Something closer to fear.
"She knows," he said quietly.
Almost to himself.
"She already knows."
I didn't ask who he meant.
I already knew.
He stood there another moment, then pulled out his phone and stared at the screen.
His face went pale.
He looked up at me.
"How long have you known?"
I stepped back and held the door open.
"You should go, Frank."
He didn't move.
And that's when a car pulled up slowly at the end of my driveway.
