Chapter 1: The Throne He Built While His Son Ate on My Lap

My Husband Said $110 Was "Too Expensive" for Our Baby's High Chair — Then He Bought Himself a $1,800 Massage Recliner, and Karma Hit Fast
When our seven-month-old son, Noah, started eating solid food, I showed my husband, Travis, a $109 high chair I'd found online.
Nothing fancy.
Good reviews, easy to clean, and safe.
Travis barely glanced at it.
"Absolutely not.
He'll use it for a year."
I reminded him that I was currently feeding Noah on my lap.
He shrugged.
"Babies survived before everyone started buying special furniture for everything."
Then he added the part that really bothered me.
"I'm the one earning the money.
I know what we can afford."
We weren't struggling.
Travis had actually gotten a raise recently.
But since I'd become a stay-at-home mom, anything I wanted to buy for Noah suddenly required Travis's approval.
So I dropped it.
Three days later, a delivery truck pulled up.
Two men carried an enormous box into our living room.
Inside was a leather massage recliner with heating, powered lumbar support, charging ports, cup holders, and a dozen different controls.
Travis had ordered it for himself.
"How much?"
He hesitated.
"Eighteen hundred."
I actually laughed because I thought he was joking.
He wasn't.
"You said we couldn't afford a $109 high chair."
"This is different.
My back hurts after work, and I'll have this for years."
That night, he connected his PlayStation beside it.
Within days, the recliner became his throne.
He'd come home, sit down, raise the footrest, and barely move until bedtime.
If Noah cried while I cooked?
"Can you grab him?
I just got comfortable."
If I needed ten minutes to shower?
"Give me a second.
My massage cycle just started."
Meanwhile, I was still feeding our baby on my lap.
I stopped arguing.
Mostly because I'd decided to buy the high chair myself the following week.
But I never got the chance.
Because on Saturday morning, I woke up to Travis yelling from the living room.
Not annoyed yelling.
Panicked yelling.
I ran downstairs and found him standing completely frozen beside his precious $1,800 recliner.
Noah was nearby, happily babbling like absolutely nothing was wrong.
Travis was holding the warranty booklet in one hand and staring at the chair.
"What happened?" I asked.
He slowly looked at me.

What did Noah do to that $1,800 recliner?
