Chapter 2: The Email He Never Expected Her to See

"Alexander gave it to me."

I said nothing.

I just looked at her.

Camila tilted her wrist slowly, letting the diamonds catch the light.

She was enjoying this.

Every second of it.

"He picked it out himself," she added.

"Said he wanted me to have something that matched my taste."

My voice stayed calm.

"When?"

The same conversation where he said, *Leave it to me, sweetheart.*

He had bought it.

But just before I reached the corridor, the young junior employee from earlier appeared at my side, breathless, her voice barely above a whisper.

"There's something you should know," she said.

"About the watch.

It wasn't the only thing he gave her."

She pressed a folded piece of paper into my hand and disappeared before I could respond.

I stopped.

Looked down.

It was a printed email.

The sender was Alexander Montalvo.

The recipient was a law firm I didn't recognize.

The subject line read: *Re: Asset Transfer — Pre-emptive Filing.*

What was Alexander trying to transfer — and why before the press release?
