The first page was a bank statement.
Daniel's name.
Chloe's name.
Fifteen thousand dollars.
Transfer dates going back eight months.
His mother picked it up before he could stop her.
The second page was a screenshot.
Chloe telling Daniel the baby had kicked.
Daniel replying: *"I'll be there for every appointment.
You won't do this alone."*
His father set down his glass.
"Daniel." His mother's voice had gone flat.
"What is this?"
"It's nothing.
She's confused.
She's been struggling since the birth—"
"I'm not confused," I said.
"I've been planning this for four months."
I slid the third page across the table.
A message from Daniel to Chloe, sent the night before Lily was born.
*"Once Jennifer has the baby, she'll be too exhausted to look at anything.
We'll have more room to breathe."*
The room had stopped pretending not to listen.
Daniel's coworker near the back stood up slowly.
His expression wasn't shock.
It was recognition.
And that was when Daniel's phone lit up on the table.
