My phone was still half-raised when Luca continued.
"This person doesn't know that I know they're here."
I stopped breathing.
Leo's grip on my hand tightened.
He looked up at me with wide eyes.
"Mom…
does Dad know?"
I couldn't answer.
My throat had closed completely.
"I've been carrying something for a long time," Luca said, his voice low and careful.
"And I think it's time to stop pretending everything is fine."
The passengers around us had gone quiet.
A woman across the aisle glanced back at me — I don't know why, I must have looked like I'd seen a ghost.
Then Luca said a name.
Not mine.
Not Leo's.
A woman's name I had never heard before.
"Diane…
I know you're on this flight.
We need to talk.
And I think everyone here deserves to know why."
Leo tugged my sleeve.
"Mom?
Who's Diane?"
I had no answer.
My hands were shaking.
The recording was still running on my phone, capturing every word — every second of something I was no longer sure I wanted to remember.
The cabin was completely silent.
