Chapter 2: What She Left Behind Was Not Luggage

Julian read the message three times.

His hands were shaking by the third.

"What is it?" Sienna asked, stepping closer.

He didn't answer.

He just stared at the screen.

The text continued:

*Before I left JFK, I called your father.

I told him everything — the secretary, the dress, the matching suitcase.

He was very interested to hear it.

He was even more interested when I forwarded him the photos.*

Julian went pale.

"Julian." Sienna's voice sharpened.

"What photos?"

He still didn't speak.

Because the photos weren't just of the airport.

They were older.

Much older.

And Clara had been quietly collecting them for months.

The next line of the message hit him like cold water:

*I also contacted your company's legal team this morning.

As your wife, I had certain rights before that flight took off.

I used them.*

Sienna grabbed his arm.

"Tell me what she did."

Julian finally looked up.

His voice came out barely above a whisper.

"She didn't just cancel her seat."

He set the phone down on the hotel bed, face up.

Sienna leaned in and read the last line of Clara's message.

The color left her face too.
