Chapter 2: The Letter He Thought Was Gone

**— PART 2 —**

The judge asked for a short recess.

Victor grabbed his attorney's arm the moment the courtroom doors closed.

"How did she get those records?

I had everything locked."

His attorney didn't answer.

She stopped a few feet away and said, calmly, "We also have the offshore account, Mr.

Hale."

Victor's face went white.

"That's not relevant to—"

"It became relevant," Grace said, "the moment you misreported restaurant income for eleven consecutive years."

Melissa stood up from the gallery.

"Victor, what is she talking about?"

The one Victor didn't know existed.

A letter.

Written in his own handwriting.

Dated three weeks after my kitchen accident.

The letter he thought he had destroyed seventeen years ago.

---

What was in that letter — and why did Victor believe it was gone forever?

The full truth comes out in a way no one in that courtroom expected.
