Chapter 2: The Name I Had Never Heard

Part 2 ⬇️
I pressed myself against the wall and held my breath.
"She looks just like her now," Dad said.
"Same hair, same color, same cut.
If you saw them side by side, you'd understand."
My legs went cold.
*Just like who?*
He lowered his voice.
"I know what you're thinking.
But I'm not doing anything wrong.
I just needed to see it."
There was a long pause.
Then he said a name.
A name I had never heard before.
I pulled out my phone and typed it in with shaking hands.
The first result was an old news article.
The photo stopped me cold — a young woman with short bright blue hair, cut right below her chin.
She looked exactly like me.
I scrolled down and saw the date on the article.
She had gone missing the year before I was born.
I heard Dad end the call.
His footsteps moved toward the hallway.
I shoved my phone into my pocket and stepped back — but it was too late.
He saw me.
For a moment, neither of us moved.
Then he said, very quietly, "How long have you been standing there?"
