Chapter 1: The Secret He Carried for Ten Years

My family cut me off because I married a blind man — on our 10th anniversary, he told me, "Your parents don't hate me because I'm blind.
They hate me because I KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT THEM."
When I told my parents I was going to marry Nathan, they didn't just disapprove of him — they gave me an ultimatum.
"If you marry him, don't come back.
What kind of future do you think you'll have with a blind man?
You'll just be his CAREGIVER for the rest of your life," my father said.
Nathan had been in an accident a few years earlier, and it had left him blind.
But he was kind, caring, funny, and treated me better than anyone ever had.
Was that accident really supposed to change how I felt about him?
Even back then, my mother told me that if I stayed with him, they would cut me out of their will.
The thing is, my parents are very wealthy, and they wanted me to marry ONLY the son of their business partner so the two families could join their fortunes.
No matter how many times I explained to my parents that I truly loved Nathan, they didn't care.
So Nathan and I got married anyway.
Until the very last moment, I hoped my parents would understand and come to the wedding.
But they didn't.
They cut me off from the family.
My sister, my cousin — ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE stopped calling me or coming to visit.
Ten years passed.
I don't even know where my parents are now.
In all that time, they never once wished me a happy birthday or congratulated me on the birth of either of my children.
My heart is still broken over it, but I'm trying to live my life.
Yesterday was our 10th wedding anniversary.
That evening, we went to a quiet café by the lake.
Nathan looked strangely pale all evening.
I asked him if everything was okay or if he wasn't feeling well.
But he took my hand and said:
"Honey, there's something I couldn't tell you before.
I know something about your parents."
My heart was pounding.
"Nathan, what are you talking about?"
He exhaled slowly and said:
"Your parents don't hate me because I'm blind.
They were hiding something from you.
It's a terrible secret I found out before our wedding, and that's why they were so against us.
Now you need to hear the truth."
