Matthew closed the library door quietly.
Grant's laughter was still rising from the reception below.
"I want to show you something," Matthew said, and set his phone on the table between us.
It was a document.
A participation agreement — almost identical to the one I had signed years ago.
Except this one had never been redeemed.
My name was still on it.
"Your interest in Harborstone was never bought out," Matthew said.
"It was buried.
Transferred internally three times in eighteen months.
The paperwork your attorney received during the divorce was a summary — not the full record."
I stared at the screen.
"That's not possible.
I signed the release."
"You signed what they put in front of you." He paused.
"Mara, Harborstone sold two major parcels last year.
The return on your original stake would have been significant."
The room felt very still.
Then the door opened.
Grant stood in the doorway in his wedding suit, his expression no longer polite.
"Mara." His voice was low.
"Whatever Matthew is telling you — you need to understand the timeline before you draw any conclusions."
Matthew didn't look at him.
"I've already seen the timeline, Grant."
Grant's jaw tightened.
He looked at me — not with anger, but with something closer to fear.
"You were taken care of," he said quietly.
"That was the agreement."
"Whose agreement?" I asked.
He didn't answer.
