Chapter 2: What Grandma Kept

Part 2 — continued in comments 👇

Noah didn't rush.
He set the box on the table in front of Julian and stepped back, microphone still in hand.
"Open it, Dad," he said.
"In front of everyone."
Julian laughed nervously and glanced at Victoria.
She gave him a small nod.
He tore the paper away.
Inside was a manila envelope, worn at the corners like it had been handled many times.
Julian's smile flickered.
"What is this?" he said quietly, so only the front tables could hear.
"Open it," Noah said again.
His voice didn't shake.
Julian lifted the flap.
Pulled out a stack of papers.
The color left his face so fast that Victoria reached for his arm.
"Julian—" she started.
"Where did you get these?" he whispered, staring at his son.
Noah looked at him calmly.
"Grandma kept everything, Dad.
Every letter.
Every document.
Every payment you never made."
The room was completely still.
Then Julian's lawyer — seated three tables back — stood up slowly, his chair scraping the floor.
And that's when I saw it.
Julian wasn't just pale from shame.
He was terrified.
Because those papers weren't only about missed child support.
There was something else in that envelope.
Something I had never seen before.
Something Noah had found — and never told me about.

What was really inside that envelope — and why did Julian's own lawyer stand up?
