Luca stopped at the edge of our table.

He didn't ask permission.

He just stood there, looking at my children like a man trying to solve an equation that was rewriting his entire life.

"Nia." His voice was low.

Controlled.

The same voice he used in boardrooms when he was about to say something that couldn't be taken back.

"How old are they?"

I kept my hands flat on the table.

"That's not a conversation we're having here, Luca."

"How.

Old.

Are they."

One of the twins looked up at him with those dark, unmistakable eyes.

Luca flinched like he'd been struck.

Behind him, Evelyn hadn't moved.

But her expression had shifted into something careful and cold.

"Luca," she said quietly.

"Come back to the table."

He didn't move.

Then my son — my serious, watchful boy — tilted his head and said the four words that made the entire restaurant disappear.

"You have my eyes."

Luca's hand gripped the back of my chair.

I stood up slowly, placed myself between him and my children, and said the only thing I could manage.

"Not here."

But it was already too late for that.

Because Evelyn had stepped forward.

And the look on her face told me she had already done the math.
