Chapter 2: The Document on the Table
The room went completely still.
Millicent was the first to find her voice.
"Who do you think you are?" she hissed at Giancarlo.
"This is a family matter."
"I am family," Giancarlo said quietly.
"She is my sister."
Caleb's hand went to his face.
His eyes moved between his mother and Giancarlo — and for the first time, something close to fear crossed his expression.
Rosalie pressed her hand against her belly and steadied herself against the chair.
Her voice came out barely above a whisper.
"Giancarlo…
how long have you known?"
He didn't answer immediately.
He reached into his jacket and placed a folded document on the dining table.
"Long enough."
Millicent lunged for the document.
One of the bodyguards stepped forward and blocked her without a word.
Caleb stared at the paper but didn't move.
"What is that?" Millicent demanded.
Giancarlo looked at her calmly.
"Proof that the agreement you made Caleb sign three months ago is void.
And proof of something else — something you hoped Rosalie would never find out."
Rosalie looked up slowly.
"What something else?"
Giancarlo turned to her, and his expression shifted — not anger anymore.
Something heavier.
"Rosalie…
Caleb has another family."
The room stopped breathing.
