Chapter 2: I'm Already Here

The principal's voice cut through the cafeteria like a blade.

"Mrs.

Hargrove.

My office.

Now."

Every student held their breath.

The teacher opened her mouth — then closed it.

For the first time, she had nothing to say.

The boy hadn't moved.

He sat perfectly still, hands flat on the table, watching her with the same calm that had unnerved her from the start.

That calm wasn't weakness.

The principal stepped closer.

"I've received a photo.

Taken two minutes ago.

Mrs.

Hargrove's eyes darted to the students.

"This isn't what it looks like," she said quietly.

"Then explain it," the principal said.

"In front of everyone."

She couldn't.

There was a folder.

A thick one.

Sitting in a parent's bag less than two miles away.

And that parent had an appointment at the school board office in exactly one hour.

The boy's phone buzzed on the table.

He glanced down.

One message.

Three words.

*I'm already here.*
