Chapter 2: The Paper She'd Been Saving

Part 2 ⬇️
The room went dead silent.
Vanessa stood there holding her cheek, eyes wide — not with shame, but with rage.
"You're going to regret that," she said.
Low.
Quiet.
Like a warning.
I didn't answer.
I just held Lily tighter.
Then Vanessa turned to the guests and laughed — actually laughed — and said, "You all saw that.
He h\*t me.
Over a piece of cake."
A few people looked away.
Some pulled out their phones.
My sister stepped forward and said, "Vanessa.
Leave."
But Vanessa didn't move.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a folded piece of paper.
She held it up like she'd been waiting for this moment.
"You really want to end this?" she said.
"Fine.
But you should know — I've already spoken to a lawyer.
And there are things about you, about your finances, that Lily's school is going to find very interesting."
The air left the room.
My hands went cold.
Because I knew exactly what she was talking about.
And if that paper said what I thought it said — Lily wasn't the only one in danger.

What Vanessa was holding in that paper changed everything.
