Grant's face went pale.
"That's not possible.
This house belongs to my mother."
The deputy didn't argue.
He simply nodded toward my attorney, who stepped forward and held out the court order.
"The property was transferred into Mrs.
Allison Monroe's name three years ago," my attorney said calmly.
"The transfer was legal, properly recorded, and fully upheld by the court this morning."
Patricia's mouth opened but nothing came out.
Grant spun toward me.
"You knew about this the entire time?"
I didn't answer.
"She can't own this house," Patricia finally said, her voice rising.
"Grant's father left that house to our family.
It was never hers to take."
My attorney didn't flinch.
"Mr.
Monroe Sr.
amended his will in 2021.
Allison was named the sole beneficiary of the property.
Your son was made aware of this before the divorce proceedings began."
Every head turned toward Grant.
He looked at the lawn.
At the boxes.
At his mother's antique furniture sitting in the open air.
Then he looked at me, and for the first time in eight years, I saw something in his eyes I had never seen before.
