Chapter 2: The Worst Decision of Your Life
Dante doesn't move.
Javier's fist stops just short of his jaw — caught mid-air in Dante's grip, locked there like iron.
The entire yard goes dead silent.
Dante doesn't raise his voice.
He doesn't have to.
"You just made the worst decision of your life."
He releases Javier's fist slowly, almost gently, and turns to check on Leo and Mia without another glance at him.
Javier laughs — a nervous, ugly sound.
"That's it?
That's all you've got?"
One of the associates near the barbecue table sets down his drink.
Then another.
Then a third.
Nobody moves.
Nobody speaks.
But every man in that yard is now watching Dante.
Dante finally turns back around.
"You touched my daughter.
You put your hands on my son." He takes one step closer.
"And you did it in front of witnesses."
Javier's laugh fades.
"I don't fight men like you, Javier." Dante's voice drops even lower.
"I finish them."
Mia grabs her father's arm.
"Dad — stop.
There's something you don't know yet."
Dante looks at her.
Her face is pale.
Her hands are shaking.
"Javier didn't come here alone."
